| Abstract |
The 2024/25 rainfall year is highly anticipated after a prolonged drought in much of southern Africa (SASSCAL 2024) .
The first quarter of the rainfall year lasts from Octo-ber to December. It normally coincides with the planting season of most staple crops in southern Africa. In average, between 26 and 38 % of the total annual rainfall falls in the first quarter of the rainfall year, depending on the area in southern Africa.
On average, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe had average Oct-Nov-Dec rainfall totals. Most of Zambia, on average, had below average rainfall for the first quarter of the 2024/25 rainfall year. |
