Abstract |
Climatic data of Angola in the period of 1961-1974 was rescued from the Archives of the University of Coimbra by the Instituto Politécnico Tundavala (within the scope of SASSCAL project in Angola - Task 141) and digitalized into Excel spreadsheets. These data gather monthly summaries of observations of climate variables such as air temperature, relative humidity, cloudiness, precipitation and phenomenon’s associated with the rain, like lightning, thunder, mist and includes evaporation and evapotranspiration Angola’s watershed. The data include districts and stations names and their geographical coordinates and also the dates of the occurrence of extremes. In this project the goal involves the digitization of the original copies and images to ensure preservation. The process used, follows guidelines of the World Meteorological Organization, international body entitled to handle climate data. This is a practical work, objective and although tiring is of utmost importance for Angola as it will provide basis for several national and international studies, such as climate change and yet also in the process of the development of key sectors of the country.
