Abstract The purpose of their study was to evaluate the effect of different doses of nitrogen fertilizer on growth, development and yield of maize. To this end, it carried out a test under field conditions using a completely randomized block design with seven treatments and three replications. The treatments were increasing rates of nitrogen (T1 Solo simple'testemunha', T2 - 100 kg/ha; T3 - 150 kg/ha; T4 - 200 kg/ha, T5 - 250 kg/ha; T6 - 300 kg/ha; T7 - 350 kg/ha). Therefore, the following variables were evaluated: plant height; diameter of the stems; weight of the leaves; fresh weight and dry grain; number of sheets; weight of the cob with and without leaves; diameter of the cob; number of cob; length of the cob; shoot weight; dry root weight; length of roots; volume of the roots; dry matter (stem, leaf and grain) and the yield of green maize and grain. The data were processed using the statistical program Infostat version 2008. The best results were found in treatments T3, T6 and T7, with a significant difference compared to other treatments. Interests also noted that the lower results were achieved in the testimony T1 treatment and treatment with the lowest dose of nitrogen fertilizer T2. There was no predominance of one dose in relation to the effect on variables of growth and yield in maize. Nevertheless we can conclude that T3 treatment resulted to be most agronomic, ecological and economically viable. Key-words: Corn Culture, Nitrogen Doses, Agronomic Yield. ?
