Abstract |
The map represents the two provinces of Lundas and the location of the main of diamond mining projects. One can see the areas of the industrial extraction projects, the largest fields of artisanal exploration are located, and some cooperatives of semi-industrial or mixed exploitation, as well as the areas of extraction of aggregates, fundamentally used for the construction works and rodes. For the most part, diamond mining in the region is carried out in secondary deposits, alluviums, with few exceptions for exploitation in kimberlites. Industrial exploitation is done by the government in association with large enterprises, using heavy equipment and occupying large tracts of land; Semi-industrial exploitation is carried out in cooperatives, which are concessions attributed to individual or collective individuals, using medium-sized means, associated with artisanal methods; While the artisanal exploration is done individually or in small groups using the simpler means and manual processes of diamond extraction. The latter is one of the sources of income for a large part of the region's population. |
