Abstract The main purpose of this study was to database the Lagomorpha specimens housed in the Museum of Ornithology and Mammalogy of Lubango in order to organize and develop a management system for the collection, contributing to the creation of a mammal map of Angola and making the information available to the academic and scientific community. The collection of Lagomorpha comprises 145 specimens belonging to the family Leporidae ordered in two Genus: Lepus with 128 records and Pronolagus with 17 records. The specimens were collected in 68 different localities belonging to 9 provinces (Benguela, Namibe, Huíla, Cunene, Malanje, Bengo, Cuanza-Norte, Cuanza-Sul and Cuando Cubango), corresponding to 50% of total Angolan provinces, Huíla being the province with the highest number of collected specimens (56) of two Genera, representing 38.6% of the records. Lepus victoriae was the most representative specie, with 85 specimens collected. A review on morphophysiology, taxonomy, evolution, ecology and geographic distribution of the Leporideae Family was undertaken, which resulted in a proposal to update the nomenclature and classification of part of the museum's species. According to the latest studies on Leporideae taxonomy, the specimens identified as Lepus crawshayi and Lepus saxatilis, were considered synonyms of Lepus victoriae. Concerning the Genus Pronolagus, the specimens identified as Pronolagus caucinus were considered synonyms of Pronolagus randensis. This study allowed us to understand the uncertainties still existing on the taxonomy and geographic distribution of lagomorphs, particularly in Angola. The information on their conservation status is scarce, which justifies the planning of field work and taxonomic studies in order to obtain new data on this group and to enrich the Museum's collection. This study was funded by project SASSCAL, Task Id_209, and by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Angola, Project Mammal Map. ?
