Abstract |
The dataset comprises 34,583 records of Angolan Birds and it includes 26 orders, 84 families, 336 genera and 642 species. The records resulted from the work carried out between 1958 and 1975 by 71 collectors, with Rosa Pinto - the former Coordinator of the Section of Ornithology at the Instituto de Investigação Científica de Angola - as the main collector (20.18%). Passeriformes are the best represented Order, with 26,747 records, followed by Coraciformes (1,441), Piciformes(1,417) and Charadriiformes (1,151). The information was georeferenced in the projection WGS 1984. The geographic range of the records covers Angola, coordinates 18 ° 35'24 ''S and 4 ° 5'60''S Latitude; 11 ° 5'24''E and 25 ° 1'48''E Longitude, and Huila is the province best represented with 26.21% of records. The records were first introduced by Michael Mills (AP Leventis Ornithological Research Institute) and collaborators (2010), and were revised, corrected and updated from the labels of each specimen and field books. Records were catalogued as they were labelled, taxonomic revision is currently under way. |
