Author SASSCAL ?
Abstract The Limpopo Basin is a 415 000 km2 catchment area that is shared between Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique (GWP 2011). Approximately 14 million people are estimated to live in the Basin (GWP 2011). The Limpopo River arises in South Africa as a confluence of the Marico and Crocodile Rivers and travels 1 750 km to the Indian Ocean in Mozambique (LIMCOM 2023). The Basin can be characterised by higher elevation areas, including the Waterberg, Strydpoort Mountains and Drakensberg range, and the more homogenous coastal and valley area in the eastern part of the Basin (LIMCOM 2023). The majority of the Limpopo Basin landscape is Southern Africa Bushveld. The eastern and part of the northern landscape is Zambezian and Mopane woodlands. The western landscape is Kalahari Acacia-Baikiaea woodland. The rainfall in the Limpopo Basin is the highest over and around the Great Escarpment of South Africa, known as the Drankensberg mountains. The rainfall of the Basin generally increases from the northern and north-western part of the Basin to the eastern and southern part of the Basin. ?
