Abstract The aDGVM2, a fully trait-based dynamic vegetation model. It is based on an explicit representation of eco-physiological processes. In aDGVM2, each plant is characterized by a potentially unique combination of plant traits. Trait filtering, trait inheritance, trait mutation and cross-over allow the model to assemble plant communities that are adapted to the local biotic and abiotic conditions of a study site. Plant communities in aDGVM2 are composed of a set of life history strategies that emerge from the community assembly process rather than being pre-defined and static. ?
