| Abstract |
For much of southern Africa, January can be expected to show much greener vegetation after the onset of the rainy season. January, according to the average monthly NDVI ( Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), is one of the four greenest months in most of southern Africa. In Namibia, on average, it is the 5th greenest month of the year.
According to the average monthly NDVI for January 2025, much of southern Africa shows average or above average greenness for January 2025, while large areas of Namibia remain plagued by the prolonged drought. Much of Namibia is seeing the driest January of the five past years.
On average, Angola, Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe were greener in January 2025, than can be expected on average for the month of January and as compared to the historic average for January from 2001 to 2020.
On average, Namibia and Zambia were less green in January 2025, than can be expected for the average historic greenness for January. |
